Today a mentor and dear friend wrote me a note saying "I've hit bottom and bounced." Boy did I appreciate her honesty.
Reflecting on her words I realized she touched on two vital keys to success: being with 'what is so' and 'moving on'.
'What is so' can also be called 'reality' or 'the truth'. To me success isn't about putting your head in the sand and ignoring our current 'reality'. It's about shifting the reality into a new realm of possibility. This distinction is subtle, but it's huge.
For a period of time my friends 'reality' was hitting bottom. BUT HERE'S THE COOL part; Because she chose to 'bounce', she actually created a NEW reality for herself - and moved on from the reality she was in. This make sense?
Reality really is what we make it. In it's simplest form it's declaring the glass is half empty or it's half full. Only the observer can decide 'the truth'. The glass and the water are just sitting there being the glass and the water.
So, the next time you hit bottom, I encourage you to decide to bounce... And decide to bounce nice and high. Why not? You have the power to determine the 'what is so' for your life.
Remember in Apollo 13 when it seems all is lost, and NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz overhears a negative comment? In that moment he declares "with all due respect, sir, I believe this will be our finest hour."
Now there's a powerful possibility - one that came true.
